Our Next Concert
Rheinberger Star of Bethlehem
The final concert of the Choir’s 2019 season features a rarely performed masterwork from the German Romantic period which deserves to be heard more often: Rheinberger’s lyrical and very personal Star of Bethlehem, based on words by the composer’s poet wife and presenting a heart-warming and joyful portrayal of the Christmas story. It is a charming and moving account of the Nativity, and will provide our audience with the premiere performance of this work in Australia.
This will be preceded by a performance of the Christmas Overture by the German early Romantic composer, Otto Nicolai (1810-1849), based on a Christmas hymn, with words and music by Martin Luther.
The concert will also reflect the season with four carols, two sung by the Chamber Choir. The inspiring atmosphere of the University’s Great Hall provides a perfect setting for this performance.
