Choir members will be delighted to hear that Anna Dowsley, the young mezzo-soprano who starred in our memorable Verdi Requiem in April after being highly commended by the judges in the 2012 Joan Carden Award, is to be a soloist in our December concert of baroque music.
Marilyn Gosling (soprano) took the opportunity provided by her current overseas holiday to meet up with Anna in New York and deliver the scores of the Mass in C Major (Missa Dei Patris) of Jan Zelenka (1679-1745) and the very popular Gloria of Antonio Vivaldi (1675-1741), which we will be singing in the Great Hall of the University at 5pm on 1st December.
Marilyn reports that Anna is coming to the end of a very rewarding and enjoyable scholarship stay in the Big Apple, having recently spent time studying in Italy and Germany. She is about to head to Rome to take up an offer which was made to her when she was in Italy in the European summer on another scholarship (in Sienna). Anna is thrilled at the opportunity to work with another teacher and learn more about the Italian opera scene , as well as simply to soak up the offerings of the Eternal City!
Anna will be back in Australia in late November and is looking forward to singing with the Choir again, as well as returning to her family and friends and taking up her place as a Young Artist with Opera Australia.
We are very fortunate to have such a gifted and charming young singer appearing with us once again.
