Sydney Sings Messiah 2012

Yes, with the generous support of the City of Sydney and Westfield Sydney, we are once again presenting Sydney Sings Messiah in 2012! We invite 500 singers from across NSW and the ACT (and sometimes they come from even further afield) to join us to present Handel’s classic oratorio in a splendid setting…and of course we invite audience members to come along and enjoy the concert.

The performance will take place in Sydney Town Hall at 3pm on Sunday 18 November under the baton of our acclaimed Music Director Christopher Bowen OAM. This is a very special year for the choir as we are celebrating our 60th anniversary.

As in 2007 and 2010, choristers will be required all day…in the morning for rehearsals and in the afternoon for the performance. There are no other rehearsals.

There will be more detailed information and an invitation to register to sing soon, so if you are not on our emailing list, please email and your email address will be added to the email contact list.

Here are just a few of the comments from singers who joined us for this event in 2010:

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed being a part of Messiah this year. It’s was a wonderful day and a great start to the Christmas season. My friends who attended the performance thought it fabulous.

It was very well organised and just such a privilege to be part of it.

The tingling down the spine started with the first chorus and continued pretty well without interruption every time the choir sang. The sound was magnificent …the attention to detail was astonishing especially since the massed choir had only met for the first time this morning.

It was a brilliant way to spend the day…it was a wonderful afternoon of beautiful music…top class singing and orchestra.

I had a really wonderful day enjoying the fabulous music-making with Christopher’s excellent guidance and also the very nice spirit of the Grads – friendly and welcoming…. a lovely Christmas present for all of Sydney!!!

The Messiah was great and I enjoyed it very much. The choir was amazing in size and sound. And the venue was magnificent. I haven’t been inside the Town Hall for 50 years or more. It is a wonderful building. What a good thing the Council has got it into such good shape. (Audience member)

What an absolutely wonderful experience!!  It was the first time I had sung in such a choir and it was exhilarating.  I also felt privileged to be able to listen to such gifted soloists and enjoy the sound of such a magnificent organ.

My sister, from Adelaide, was with me, singing for the first time in any choir – we both thoroughly enjoyed our day (and our other sister was there too, in Grads).

I enjoyed it enormously and my husband in the audience thought it the best Messiah he has heard – with better sound than in the Opera House. I thought the orchestra were particularly good.

No, no, no – I can’t possibly wait another two years!!! I had such a wonderful experience, singing the Messiah for the first time ever and meeting so many lovely people, that I’ve already started dreaming of next year’s performance!
